Mark III

Not sure if anyone is paying attention to camera news (just me? I'm assuming), but the Canon 5D Mark III was announced. Last year, I upgraded to a 5D Mark II. I knew the Mark III would be coming, but I didn't know when, I didn't want to wait, and I figured that, when released, it would be a bit too expensive for my blood. I could have waited for the Mark III to be announced so I could get the Mark II for cheaper, but I decided against it becasue 1) that would mean waiting for who-knows-how-long when I could have it immediately and 2) even though the price would be much better for the Mark II, I know that seeing the Mark III and its specs might have me changing my mind and spending more money than I should on a camera just because the specs were a bit better. I mean, let's face it, the Mark II is an amazing camera, and more than enough to meet my needs.

Anyway, I was looking at the Mark III specs and yes, there are a few things that I'm drooling over, but overall, I'm completely happy with my decision. The extra features are nice - very nice! - but not requirements, and even a price drop on the Mark II (I haven't looked, but I'm sure there is one) doesn't compare to the months of experience I've had with it so far. I'm completely in LOVE with that camera. And there's still so much more I need to play around with on it (I haven't even taken video with it yet. Not that I ever plan on really getting into video, but it's a feature I should probably at least know how to do!)

Well, instead of talking about cameras (which I'm sure you don't care about), let's look at some photos, instead!

Thai Tempeh dish
I have recently been obsessed with the Clean Food cookbok I bought. It's amazing. AMAZING! This spicy thai tempeh with cashews is the first thing I made from it, and I was immediately in love.

Silly John, Yoshi is not a hat!

001.366 - The start of a New Year
001.366 - Remember in 2008 (the last Leap Year), I took 366 self portraits - one a day, for the whole year? I decided to do a 366 project again (make a leap year tradition!), but this time not restrict myself ot self portraits. Since I was kicking off the year with a photography project, I thought it made sense to have my first photo be another photography resolution - to improve my processing techniques by actually learning instead of playing around until I figure things out. I'm pretty good at playing around until I figure things out, but actually reading might be beneficial, too.

So after giving it a good review, I'm curious as to whether you like the Kelby book?

Also, I refuse to even look at the specs for the D800 that was announced just a bit ago. I'm happy with my D700 and don't need to start pining over a new body just yet.

I'm pretty sure I like it. The only reason I can't say for SURE is because I'm actually reading it in order and haven't gotten past the importing/organizing chapter (I keep looking at it, but not actually picking it up). Assuming the actual editing parts (which is what I was more interested in) are written in the same way (which I'm sure they are), I'm confident I'll like it. I also bought the photoshop one because it was on sale, but I'm less impressed with it because it seems to be 90% about ACR, which is all the stuff I'll do in Lr, so... yeah. meh.
