More from Maine!

I last left off with the Acadia photos on our bike-ride around the lake.

That evening we spent out on the deck of the cottage, drinking wine (me) and beer (him), eating veggie dogs and reading. Yoshi joined us.

Yosh!

Mmmm, wine!

Yoshi is such a lush!

I loved these lights!

Hooray for timers!
Goodness, my hair is long. I usually get it cut every 4 weeks, but this was right around the 4 week mark and obviously was not at home to get it done.

The next morning we went out to breakfast. I picked this place out (Cafe This Way) earlier and had just been drooling thinking about it, and so it was time for us to GO. Surprisingly, we easily found parking and were seated right away. We sat out on their deck, and the table next to us was empty for a minute or so, so I was able to get a photo of it to capture the atmosphere of the place - this doesn't do it justice, the place was just great. And the food? OMG AMAZING. I had the vegetarian breakfast burrito (a. maze. ing.) and John had an awesome traditional pancakes/eggs/bacon breakfast:

Eagle Lake

On our second full day in Maine, we biked around Eagle Lake. It was a great, short ride (about 6 miles, I think?), although, it did include a pretty intense hill at one point, and it felt good to finally make it to the top of that! It also made me once again question the sanity of the people who bike to the top of Cadillac Mountain! That's dedication!

Anyway, here are some photos from that bike ride:

We sat and at lunch on a large rock, and this was the view from said rock.

This is John's favorite photo - because of how it looks so dreary on the left and bright and colorful on the right

The cottage

Wanna see the cottage we stayed at in Maine? I thought so. I forgot to take a picture of the front (d'oh), but you can get a good idea of the style of it from the other photos:

The cottage
As you walk in the door the spiral staircase was on the right with the living area behind it, and the kitchen was on your left. straight ahead is the door to the deck.

The cottage
Here I'm standing with my back to the sprial staircase. the wall with my bike helmet/jacket is immediately on your left when walking in the door. Behind the fridge is a shelf where we had our pantry-ish items. See the coffee maker? to the right of it is one of those nifty "heat the hot water to the exact right temperature for whatever type of tea you're making" things. I totally want one of those, but they are expensive. funny, I didn't use it all week because I didn't bother bringing any tea!

The cottage
Another view of the kitchen

The cottage
The kitchen is to my left as I'm taking this photo. The door on the left is to the bathroom. The door in front is out to the desk. That table is where we ate breakfast every morning. The flowers were REAL. And beautiful.

The cottage
This is where we drank wine and beer, and ate our dinners, and sat and read and talked. We spent a lot of time out here. The woods go down to a stream and there's a path near there. This photo is taken just outside the door, looking towards the right

The cottage
The little grill where we grilled our veggie dogs for dinner!

The cottage
This gives you a good idea of the style of the cottage, though it's even CUTER from the front. The big window you see here is the window that the table with the flowers is at inside.

The cottage
Wine glasses!

The cottage
The bathroom! can you tell who the last person to use it was? I hate it when I don't notice that before taking the picture.

The cottage
This is standing about halfway up the spiral staircase and looking out over the living area.

The cottage
These are the birds I FELL IN LOVE WITH. I want them, but neither I, nor anyone else I've asked, knows where on earth I can find anything like this. I'm still open to any suggestions.

The cottage
Standing up in the loft looking down. I did take a photo of the loft but it was so messy that I don't want to share it! Basically, it was just a queen-size bed with two nightstands, and one of those 3-panelled screen thingies next to the railing that overlooked the living area.

The Bowl

Ok, I left off with the Maine photos with the drive up and our stop at Pemaquid.

The next day was a busy one. In the morning we went and hiked up to The Bowl - it's a lake that's at the top of one of the mountains. We sat and ate lunch there before hiking back. Funny story. We hiked all the way up (no, we didn't do the Beehive!) and then back down again without so much as a scratch and then about 5 feet away from the end of the trail, I slip and fall right on my butt! Of course this also happened to be when another couple was walking directly behind us and got to see the whole thing. I'm such a klutz!

In the afternoon we went Kayaking (I don't have any photos of that because I didn't want to risk taking my camera on the kayak). So here are photos from the hike up to The Bowl:

After our day of hiking and kayaking, we decided we deserved some food and beer, so we went to a bar to grab a bite to eat and a cold one Here's both of us there:
